Director's note:
"Children of the 80's grew up in a cocoon of science fiction and fantasy, vivid neon colors and catchy advertising. The 90's brought a darker, defiant energy, the explosion of grunge and hip-hop, grassroots activism went mainstream, and the greatest invention of our time - the internet - allowed us to connect with anyone across the globe instantly. We could define ourselves - reinvent ourselves - there was a sense of possibility, empowerment.
Today, defiance has been replaced by apathy, and we are again locked inside our cocoons, paralyzed by the fear of making a misstep, of not presenting ourselves - or our "brand" - perfectly. Now what? What do I do next?
Our planet is falling apart, violence and injustices flourish, greed and power are encouraged, celebrated. And we the people remain distracted.
With Pastorale, our collective seeks to unearth and revive our ability to connect. What are the demons, the insecurities, the fears, we hide deep down inside so we can appear strong even though we're scared kids who want to feel loved? We may feel safe in our cocoons but we have to reach out and cooperate before it's too late."
